Guitaa Artists Centerstage – “Chad Rico”

Hailing from Los Angeles, California, Today, on Guitaa Artist Centerstage, we have an amazing hip hop artist with us and his name is “Chad Rico”. A Belizean American Chad Rico is also a college math professor, entrepreneurial clothing manufacturer/designer, filmmaker and world traveler!

So, Let’s get to know more about this cool artist, how his journey into music began, about his various talents, and many more.

  • Introduce yourself to our audience, what genre of music do you consider your work to be?

My name is Chad Rico. I am a musician, artist, professor, film writer, film producer, mathematician, and world traveler. I consider my music Hip Hop with a unique twist at times.

  • What and who were your early passions and influences, What inspires you to make music?

I like Nas for his story telling, I like Snoop for his cadence and Lil Wayne for his punchlines. I like expressing myself and I just love music. I listen to music all day. I like telling my story because I feel it’s pretty unique.

  • Tell us about that one memorable performance and favorite venue which you still wish to happen again?

I performed at this graduation party and I really enjoyed the food and drinks at the venue and that was like a perk performing there. They had these Mai Tai’s that were amazing and the seafood was fire as well. I performed and got a really good reception from the crowd and that was appreciated.

  • Any funny story of a mess up during your performance where you handled that situation like nothing happened?

I performed at YG’s backpack give away in Compton. We had to give the music to the DJ and everything seem to check out fine. However, during the performance, the music cut and I had to perform my entire verse acapella. Keep in mind this the first time I am performing this song. It was this one girl in the front that was hyping up my verse with all these ad libs. I had to keep my composure because I wanted to laugh. On top of that it was a song where I rap fast so in my head I was “oh shit” but I just kept it going and the music came back on for the last song, so it worked out!

  • If you could collaborate with any musicians(dead/alive), who would you collaborate with and why?

I would have liked to collaborate with Tupac. I think it would have been cool to collab with Barry White on something too. Current artist I like are Drake and Kendrick – they would be cool to work with.

  • What has been your biggest challenge as a Musician? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?

Honestly learning how to market my music. Like how to keep fans engaged. I have learned this takes patience. My answer to this has been this “12 Weeks of Summer” project. I literally am dropping a single every week. I think it forces people to see I’m working and I’m consistent. I feel like the same people are liking my videos every week and I’m getting new ones. I’m still researching though and I recognize the battle is getting your music heard and that is a process.

  • What Tools and techniques you use to improve your singing/instrumental playing?

I took singing lessons so I would understand how to control my voice better. I think it’s important to learn how to do something. I am fast learner, so I really appreciate when I am given some direction and then I get the ball rolling.

  • What type of Gadgets and instruments do you use while practicing? And, Do you have any specific name of your instrument?

I grew up playing instruments. As I got older, I began to fall in love with plug ins. I record mobile using Logic Pro X and I’m starting to get back to my plug ins so I may start making beats again.

  • What advice would you have for someone wanting to become an Artist?

Research and more research! Find out the best ways to market yourself. I also find out how the business works and ask questions, so you can get a clear understanding of where you want to go.
