Hailing from Stilwell, Kansas, Today, on Guitaa Artist Centerstage, we have an amazing singer/songwriter with us and his name is “Charlie Rogers”. The Nashville-based artist embraces aspects from genres Contemporary Country & Pop, through which he tells a story through charming lyrics and textured musicality.

So, Let’s get to know more about this amazing artist, how his journey into music began, about his favorite artists, and many more.

  • Introduce yourself to our audience, what genre of music do you consider your work to be?

Hi, my name is Charlie Rogers. I’m a singer-songwriter living in Nashville, TN by way of Kansas. I am technically considered country though I pull influence from pretty much all genres alchemizing my sound into something that is authentically me.

  • What and who were your early passions and influences, What inspires you to make music?

I grew up on The Beatles, my dad was a huge fan of bands like The Eagles & Jim Croce as well. My sister was the country fan in my family, later having sway on the rest of us. I, being the rebellious teen I was, tried my damnedest not to fall into the trap of loving country music as a Kansas & instead embraced the pop-rock acts of the 2000s, especially Green Day.

My eventual transition into country music was because of country rock acts like Keith Urban & Eric Church. From there I fell in love with the lyricism of late 2000s country really embracing Rascal Flatts, Eli Young Band, & Lady Antebellum. I later fell back in with British Pop; Ed Sheeran, The 1975, Niall Horan, Harry Styles, etc. All of those artists I’d say have contributed to my sound.

I’ve always had an affinity towards music. I used to escape the nursery at my parents’ church in search of a microphone. I started piano around six & just kept adding on more & more instruments over the years. Eventually I took a stab at songwriting & it really just stuck.

I’m truly inspired by the everyday. The experiences we face as humans may not have collectively but can each relate to in our own way. I often write songs around things I hear in day to day conversation. I love hearing what a song of mine meant to a fan, whether it got them through a hard time or simply makes them smile, that’s when I know I’ve done my job right.

  • Tell us about that one memorable performance and favorite venue which you still wish to happen again?

I opened for Brothers Osborne on Kansas City Power & Light’s Live Stage. This was right about the time their first album had come out but the venue was packed. There were around 2,000-3,000 people present & the vibe was electric. That’s not to discredit my love for small intimate stages where the crowd knows your songs. I think that’s my absolute favorite thing no matter the size of the crowd, I love hearing the evidence that your song has connected with someone.

  • Any funny story of a mess up during your performance where you handled that situation like nothing happened?

I actually had one happen yesterday! We do a different version of “Country In My Veins” live, CIMV is a song from my previous project, The Charlie Rogers Band. In the live version we do a series of full band hits which I signal. Yesterday I gave the signal & nothing happened. So I was just standing there on stage mid vamp looking like a fool & I stood & I stood not moving post-missed hit until I cocked my head & said “well that won’t do, let’s try that again!” So we did & went off well with a little chuckling & much applause from the audience!

  • If you could collaborate with any musicians(dead/alive), who would you collaborate with and why?

I think my dead & alive artist choices are very similar. As I mentioned above, I’m a rather large Beatles fan. In fact, I’m writing this from above The Cavern Club in Liverpool! That being said, I would choose John Lennon (deceased) & Paul McCartney (alive) to collaborate with. I think in addition to being incredible songwriters & musicians the duo has the ability to bend genres & create something that on paper sounds like it may not work but in practice is excellent, something I strive for in my own music!

  • Any Tips to keep the balance between professional and music life?

Make your music live your professional life. If music is the thing you love & the thing you can’t live without find a way to make money at it. You’ll end up never working a day in your life!

  • What Tools and techniques you use to improve your singing/instrumental playing?

Singing through a straw. You look like a lunatic but it’s great for both warming up & warming down. It keeps strain off your vocal cords & keeps you from straining while enforcing proper technic knocking the jaw, the tongue, & the nose out of the mix.

  • What type of Gadgets and instruments do you use while practicing? And, Do you have any specific name of your instrument?

I typically play a Collings Triple-O but it’s in the shop at the moment, unfortunately, the headstock on it snapped. Lately, I’ve been playing a Taylor 613ce. When I play the keyboard I play a Korg!

  • What advice would you have for someone wanting to become an Artist?

Be authentic. If you aspire to be like another artist, learn from them, don’t model yourself after them. Your favorite artists got where they are because they were themselves and they’re already the best whoever out there. They’re doing the best them anyone can do so you do the best you that you can.
